How mHealth is Evolving into Phone Extensions and Wearables

In 2013, Nobel Peace Prize winner, Muhammad Yunus said that mobile phones are the “Aladdin’s lamp for healthcare”, a statement that still rings true today. Two years after that interview, here is a look at how digital health is beginning to expand beyond mobile phones. Mobile phones – especially smartphones – have been revolutionary in health care, especially in developing countries. With budding industries like add-ons to smartphones and wearable tech, the mHealth landscape is evolving.

Here are 5 digital health tools that extend beyond the mobile phone:

Reflecting on 2015

Atlas Corps blog photo

I used to pass this street on my way to work everyday, I took a picture of it during the different season last year.

This time last year, I remember getting so many friend requests from people who were then strangers, and are now some of my closest friends, Atlas Corps fellows. And that is when you have only experienced the tip of the iceberg of the Atlas Corps experience.

Looking for the meaning of “Atlas Corps”

New PictureI was browsing the internet with my son, Sanim, and I saw the confirmation letter from Atlas Corps in my email. I asked my wife to hold him so that I could check my email. My excited eyes were on the screen but my ears were listening to my wife. She just asked me and insisted I answer her, “What does Atlas Corps mean to you”? I looked back at her and started to think of the best answer which she might like most. After hearing me, she smiled and gave me her silent permission to go ahead.

My last blog, thanks Atlas Corps!

Hi, this is my last blog I want to say my five facts, the first thing I learned arriving to DC, I am Wilson Saavedra, an Atlas Corps Fellow Class 17 from Bolivia serving at Heartland Alliance International in Chicago, my social issue is Social Entrepreneurship and my fun fact is that I run next to the lake but I get fatter every year. It has been one year and my fellowship finished.

Why is the world at war with children? A threat to our humanity!

“When elephants fight, it’s the grass that suffers,” is an ancient Kikuyu proverb that paints a graphic imagery of the suffering of children who are victims of wars and nonsense violence around the world.

For New Fellows – Settling down in DC made Easy

Whenever we go to a new place for a longer duration, the first thing we want to do upon arrival is to settle down quickly in that city. We are excited to meet new people, see new places, experience new adventures, learn new things and we are in a hurry to do almost everything in our first few days. Along with being super excited, we are also a bit nervous because we need to figure out a lot of things, like housing, travel, budgeting, work, food, bank account, new workplace, new people etc.

Small little tip for future fellows – COMMUNICATION

The year of 2015 was a special and an important turning point for my professional life and serving as an Atlas Corps Fellow was at the center of this change. I would like to take this opportunity to look back and share my time in Washington DC and hope it can give some nice ideas for future candidates who will be in this amazing community as my fellow fellows.

Ayuda supports immigrants living in D.C., Maryland and Virginia. It offers legal, social, and interpretation services. Ayuda’s work includes legal representation for low-income immigrants and social services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse and human trafficking.

Prophets – Part 1

Jesus_Muhammad.jpgMuslims celebrated birthday of Prophet Muhammad P.B.U.H on December, 24th and Christians celebrated Jesus’s birthday on December, 25th all over in the World. Prophet Muhammad addressed in his last sermon, “You who believe fear God and write off anything that remains outstanding from lending at interest if you are (true) God and His Messenger If you repent you may retail your principal do not wrong and you will not be wronged”, “ No Arab is superior to a non-Arab except in piety” and “All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over a black nor a black has any superiority over white except by piety and good action”.
