Kanchan Singh, the founder of Crumbs & Whiskers, started cat café after travelling to Thailand where she discovered the original concept. After coming back to U.S., she turned to crowdfunding and raised two times more money than planned.
Crumbs & Whiskers creates a comfortable and safe environment for cats. Café is their home until they find a new family. While waiting, they hang around and meet visitors who come to enjoy their company. The café limits the number of guests and organizes 70 minutes visits to keep their feline residents comfortable.
There are plenty of cat cafés around the world where people come to sip their coffee in the company of felines that live there. Crumbs & Whiskers stands out for one reason: all cats are rescues and come from a local shelter. And all cats are for adoption! Isn’t it great? As a future cat lady, I felt like I could adopt all of them.
Since the foundation of Crumbs & Whiskers in 2015 more than 600 cats were adopted. By fostering cats, they create more space at the partner shelter for other cats in need. Shelter capacity increases, which means more cats can be cared for.
If animals stay on the streets they are in danger and can be dangerous for people. Cats and dogs end up on the streets due to uncontrolled breeding and because of owners who no longer want them. Throughout the United States, there are more than 5 thousand shelters. These shelters temporarily care for 6,5 million dogs and cats. Of these, about 1,5 million are euthanized every year due to a lack of available homes or people willing to adopt them.*
If you consider having a pet – adopt, don’t shop. Or enjoy animals’ company at places like Crumbs & Whiskers.
