As professionals in the non profit sector, we spend so much of our time, energy and work thinking about others.While this is great and fills us with a sense of fulfillment and purpose,we run the risk of burn out and|or stress and anxiety.
It is important for us to take care of ourselves so that we can perform at our best. When we are good to ourselves only then we do good work and this act of taking care of ourselves is basically self-care
But what is self care?
Self-care is something that refuels us, recharges our batteries and allows us to show up as the best versions of ourselves in work and life in general.
While it might sound selfish,even paradoxical, self-care isn’t a selfish act. In fact, it is the very opposite. It is not only about considering our needs and indulging ourselves but it is more about knowing what we need to do in order to take care of ourselves so that we can be the best version of ourselves.
It could be as simple as talking walks in the park or having a mani-pedi or even a lush bath-bomb (no judgment here), but its also about letting go of negative people and situations, walking away from toxic relationships and learning how to say NO.
So whatever your self care is find it and practice is (shamelessly) and then go and be the best version of yourself!
