American First lady (1961-1963) Jackie Kennedy

Jackie Kennedy

Two months after arriving in Washington D.C, I was privileged to watch the filming of the movie ‘Jackie’. Jackie is a movie account of the days of First Lady, Jacqueline Kennedy, in the immediate aftermath of John F. Kennedy’s assassination; it will be released in 2017. It was interesting to see a movie being made and also meet big Hollywood stars like Natalie Portman and Peter Sarsgaard. After watching the filming of Jackie, I got interested in learning more about this woman and what made her special.
I have never really followed the Kennedy’s family politics in details apart from the lessons I took about American Politics in my History Class.
Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis was the first lady of the United States of America. She was married to John F. Kennedy, America’s 35th President from 1961 to 1963 before his assassination. Jackie as she was referred to was best known for being a first lady, student, editor, brave wife, mother and style icon. Her sense of fashion and style has been widely talked about and was emulated by a lot of American women. She was also very beautiful.
As a health equity advocate, I am pleased to learn that Jackie was supportive of the American Association of maternal health and infant health, the American cancer society and the girls scout. http://www.levo.com/articles/lifestyle/jackie-kennedy-birthday
Jackie Kennedy is posed as a strong woman who suffered a lot of grief in her life. During her lifetime, she lost two of her children, Patrick Bouvier Kennedy who died two days after he was born, on August 9, 1963, and Arabella on August 23, 1956, who was a stillborn. However, she still had other two children Caroline and John F. Kennedy Jr. The grief of losing two of her children was coupled with the assassination of her husband John F Kennedy on November 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas, on a trip she had accompanied him and was by his side.
After her reign of first lady, Jackie remarried and was widowed for the second time. She later took up a job as an editor which was surprising to many people as she had a lot of money. I think it’s because this strong woman wanted to have a normal life and a chance to be her own true self. Jackie died on May 19, 1994 at the age of 65 and one of her famous quotes is “One must not let oneself be overwhelmed by sadness”. We can learn from this beautiful woman that despite the challenges life throws at us, we must be able to gather the pieces and strive to live a happy life.
