India Country Director

Position: India Country Director
Location: New Delhi, India
Level: Part-Time or Full-Time
Apply By: October 31, 2006

Summary:
A new international nonprofit organization, Atlas Service Corps (Atlas Corps), is seeking a candidate to move through the process from volunteer to paid staff member to Country Director. Atlas Corps is founded by a spouse of a U.S. Foreign Service Officer who used to work in New Delhi and therefore suspects the ideal candidate for this job is a spouse of a U.S. Government employee who arrived in India in the last six months and will be there for at least another 12-18 months. However, any qualified candidate, American or Indian, may apply for this position.

Details:
Atlas Corps is an international nonprofit organization that takes rising nonprofit leaders from the developing world to volunteer at U.S. nonprofit organizations for a year. The Fellowship will pilot in the summer of 2007 with five Fellows from India and five from Colombia. The Fellows will work on a wide variety of social issues such as the environment, health, education, women's rights, etc. The mission of the organization is to develop a global partnership for development through the integration of the citizen sector.

Opportunity:
Atlas Corps seeks an ambitious, talented, hard working individual who is interested in helping develop Atlas Corps from an idea to a large international organization. This individual would start out as a volunteer, probably for about 2-4 months, developing contacts and building the program in India. This individual would follow up with contacts the Executive Director has already established (such as the American Chamber of Commerce and the America India Foundation) and work to develop their own contacts as well. Through these contacts, the volunteer would begin to fundraise for Atlas Corps, developing the resources necessary to launch the organization in the host country. After 2-4 months, or earlier if certain benchmarks are achieved, the volunteer would transition to a part-time, paid India Development Director. More goals would be laid out, responsibilities articulated and after another 2-3 months, or when certain benchmarks are achieved, they would become the India Country Director for Atlas Corps with a negotiable full-time salary on an American nonprofit scale. When the Country Director is ready to leave India, depending on where they go, they could then transition to become the Country Director for Atlas Corps of that country, growing their salary and building their career.

Qualifications: Applications are open to everyone, even if you do not exactly fit these criteria you are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate is likely a spouse of a U.S. government diplomat (State, AID, etc.) with at least a college degree and 5+ years of work experience. Ideal candidates will have a variety of work experience, especially with nonprofits, but also with businesses and the government. Candidates need to be willing (and able) to fundraise, be outgoing and believe in the cause. Candidates are not required to know how to fundraise in all manners, but a willingness to learn and an eagerness to build a long term career of meaning with Atlas Corps is very important. Excellent written and oral communication is a must, but foreign language ability is not required.
