About Youth Service America (YSA):
Youth Service America (www.ysa.org) is a resource center that partners with thousands of organizations committed to increasing the quality and quantity of volunteer opportunities for young people, ages 5-25, to serve locally, nationally, and globally. Founded in 1986
YSA’s mission is to expand the impact of the youth service movement with communities, schools, corporations, and governments.

YSA envisions a global culture of engaged youth who are committed to a lifetime of service, learning, leadership and achievement. We work toward that mission through four core strategies:
  • Organizing Public Policy Awareness Campaigns
  • Convening the Field
  • Offering Incentive and Recognition
  • Providing Information and Educational Resources
One of YSA most important activities is National & Global Youth Service Day (GYSD). This event is the largest service event in the world, and mobilizes youth to address the needs of their communities through service while also educating the public, media, and policymakers about their year-round contributions. GYSD is organized annually by YSA with the Global Youth Action Network as its key partner. Together with a consortium of international organizations, and more than 100 National Coordinating Committees, Global Youth Service Day has grown from 27 participating countries since its inception in 2000 to more than 115 countries in 2006. The event is carried out through the work of National Lead Agencies around the world that encourages participation in their local areas.

Role Description:
Youth Service America seeks a talented citizen sector leader with experience working with youth-related organizations in India and the South Asian Region. Candidates must have 3-8 years of experience, a bachelor’s degree, and speak and write English fluently.

Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with national, regional, global efforts, trends, resources or contacts in volunteerism and philanthropy.
  • Familiarity/knowledge of funding community in India and the region.
  • Background in youth leadership and participation.
  • Solid management skills.
  • Ability to coordinate multi-layered partnerships or collaborations.
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct outreach and recruitment.
  • Ability to conduct outreach and recruitment.
  • Ability to assess cultural relevance of Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) resources and materials, recommend, and implement changes to adapt materials to diverse audiences.
  • Translation ability to multiple Indian languages preferred but not required.
  • Proactive and flexible nature with reliable follow-through and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated capacity and initiative to solve problems with energy and positive attitude.
  • Be collegial and comfortable working in a small team.
  • Strong ethical fiber.
