About Free the Slaves (FTS):
Founded in 2000, Free the Slaves (www.freetheslaves.net) is a non-profit, non-partisan human rights organization working to end the enslavement of 27 million women, men and children held against their will and forced to work without pay. In addition to empowering former slaves and their communities to assert their human rights, Free the Slaves produces print and visual media to raise awareness about modern slavery around the world; educates policymakers and holds the US government to its anti-slavery commitments; works to rid slavery from product supply chains; and conducts social science research into the nature and scope of modern slavery and the most effective responses in combating it.
Role Description:
Free the Slaves seeks a talented citizen sector leader with experience working in the anti-trafficking field in India and the South Asian Region. Candidates must have 4-8 years of relevant experience, a Bachelors Degree and be fluent in written and spoken English. The ideal candidate would posses:
Strong writing and communication skills
Work experience related to slavery organization, or child rights, women’s rights.
Experience of managing service delivery/organization of social movements at local/regional level
Familiarity with the NGO operations and procedures
Experience in internet-based research and proficiency with an Apple OS X operating system and Microsoft Office applications
Job Description:
- Conducting research on work being done by international organizations to address trafficking
- Fundraising and program development: participating in foundation, corporate and government proposal development and preparation; researching potential funding sources
- Participating in the review and targeted distribution of a rehabilitation manual for use by grassroots anti-slavery organizations. Possibly also help with translation.
- Representing Free the Slaves in public education events that focus on our grassroots antislavery program, development of our supporter networks, and our program of citizen advocacy on slavery
- Gathering and evaluating information on US government anti-trafficking activities
