About Mobilize.org:
Founded by college students on the University of California, Berkeley in 2002, Mobilize.org is a youth-led all partisan organization dedicated to educating, empowering, and energizing young people to increase our civic engagement and political participation. We show young people how public policy affects our lives, and conversely, how we can affect public policy. Mobilize.org believes that young people have the untapped ability to amass political power and encourage organizations and institutions to appreciate and earn our participation. Our programs, partnerships, and events are reflective of our belief that young people can have a profound and long-lasting effect on public policy.
Role Description:
Mobilize.org is excited to welcome an Atlas Corps Fellow to serve as the Online Advocacy Director. The Fellow will work in our Washington, DC office under the supervision of our Chief Executive Officer, Maya Enista. Their position will be a highly skilled one, responsible for maintaining the Youth Policy Action Center, Mobilize.org website, and contractual obligations to clients. Building on the success of the Youth Policy Action Center in 2006, the Fellow will develop a simple tutorial that takes an every day issue affecting the lives of young people, highlights what public policies are related to that issue, and assists young people in contacting their elected officials.
Qualifications:
All Candidates must have e-8 years of relevant experience, a bachelor’s degree, and speak and write English fluently. The Fellow should be familiar with the goals and mission of Mobilize.org and the Youth Policy Action Center and have a strong interest in public policy and the process by which the public influences policy. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in computer applications, including Microsoft Office, HTML, Graphic and Photo a plus (but not necessary). We also are seeking a candidate with strong writing skills, preferably with blogging experience, mass email creation and distribution and other online and offline communications. We would prefer a candidate who is fluent in both English and Spanish and with minimal training would be able to give a workshop in both languages to a youth audience, effectively conveying the work of Mobilize.org and answering their questions.
