International Advocacy Fellow - Role Description:
PAI is seeking a highly motivated, dynamic, resourceful and experienced nonprofit professional from India to join the team as a PAI-Atlas Corps Fellow / International Advocacy Fellow. Candidates must have 3-8 years of relevant nonprofit experience, at least a bachelor's degree, and speak and write English fluently. A bachelor's degree in international relations, international development, or public health strongly preferred.
The International Advocacy Fellow, in conjunction with the international advocacy team, will develop and implement region-specific advocacy strategies; work with organizational partners and networks; participate in international conferences, partner events, trainings and grant monitoring and evaluation; coordinate with PAI's domestic advocacy, research and communications work; travel as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in achieving PAI's mid- and long-term advocacy goals to be achieved through partnerships and the financial and/or technical support of NGO partners in both developing and donor countries.
- Assist in the implementation of specific advocacy strategies for different regions of the world (especially in India) in cooperation and coordination with internal and external key stakeholders.
- Identify and promote new alliances and partnerships for PAI around the world, with an emphasis on India.
- Coordinate the network of international advocacy partners identified as key to the achievement of PAI's key advocacy goals.
- Serve as a liaison between PAI and its international advocacy partners on joint projects, coordinating with other departments (communications, research), as needed/appropriate.
- Assist in the development and implementation of PAI strategies in relationship to international multi- and bilateral institutions and development assistance agencies of donor countries.
Coordination of PAI's technical support of partner NGOs in India:
- Initiate and facilitate the discussion of innovative advocacy strategies with partners.
- Provide guidance to partners and other groups/networks on the advocacy use of PAI's research materials.
Coordination of PAI's financial support of partner NGOs in India:
- Assist in discussion and review of funding proposals including development of guidelines for proposals which outline goal(s) of perspective partnerships.
- Recommendation of grants to be made including amount, purpose and length of grant.
- Monitoring and evaluation of all grants and on-going technical assistance projects.
Work with all PAI departments and project teams:
- Ensure that PAI's international partners are engaged to support and multiply the outreach of the work of PAI's departments and project teams.
- Assist in qualitative research collection and other activities for PAI's Policy Impact Project.
Qualifications:
- Believe strongly that improving individual well-being and preserving global resources are means to achieve social change.
- Degree in international relations, international development, public health or similar field.
- At least three years of field experience/service delivery in one of the following areas: youth services; reproductive heath supplies; or HIV/AIDS.
- Background in reproductive health, women's rights and/or population.
- Familiarity with grant-making activities helpful.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent command of the English language.
- Proactive and flexible nature with reliable follow-through and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated capacity and initiative to solve problems with energy and positive attitude.
Team player with a strong sense of humor and creativity.- Strong ethical fiber.
