Questions about PartneringHow do you choose your partners? Why do you charge a cost share? Do all partners need to be incorporated as a "nonprofit". How do you choose your partners? We are looking for partners in and near Washington , DC and Wilmington , DE for the pilot year. They need to be nonprofit organizations that in some way address the Millennium Development Goals. They need to understand and value the two-way flow of knowledge that is a key part of Atlas Corps. They need to be willing to pay the cost share. Ultimately, we choose our partners by a mix of meeting the requirements, being a good fit for the Fellows and in an effort to have a diverse set of organizations partnering with Atlas Corps. Why do you charge a cost share? We believe that we are creating value through the fellowship and our leveraging some of the value created by this fellowship through a Host cost share. Many AmeriCorps VISTA programs also have a cost share. The cost share is a way for us to guarantee that Partners will truly value and utilize their Fellows and also allows us to create a sustainable, scalable program that can expand around the world. Do all partners need to be incorporated as a "nonprofit". Yes, at least for the pilot year. There are different types of nonprofit organizations, but we are generally looking at 501(c)3 tax exempt organizations. Fellows may not go to corporations or government units, but we are investigating this for the future. |
