Amanda Chehrezad graduated with Honors from UC Davis and holds a BA in Political Science. She is currently living in Bogotá Colombia with her husband and daughter, and teaching English part time. Amanda worked at Co-op America , a national nonprofit working on social and environmental issues, before moving to Bogotá. At Co-op America she headed their media outreach, human resources issues, and was the National Coordinator for the Everett Public Service Intern Program. With several years of experience working for nonprofits, Amanda joined the team in 2006 and is helping lead Atlas Service Corps work in Colombia.
Kristy Hall
Kristy Hall, Senior Program Advisor

Kristy is a driven, results-oriented individual. She holds a BA in both business administration (International) and languages (French & Spanish) and a JD with an emphasis in International Business from George Mason University School of Law. She has worked as a lawyer in a DC communications law firm, as well as in-house counsel at a major communications company. Kristy also holds a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Georgetown University.
Currently, Kristy is President of Universal Synergy Consulting, a firm providing global expertise to nonprofit organizations. She is assisting Atlas Corps in several respects, including developing a training program for the first class of Atlas Corps Fellows.

Ryan Mykita
, Colombian Outreach Volunteer
Ryan is an International Relations Professional & Education Entrepreneurs located in Bogota, Colombia who has been helping Atlas Corps since 2006. He has taken a lead in helping our outreach to NGOs and the media.

Tim Norton
Tim Norton, Senior Researcher.
Tim Norton graduated from the George Washington University in 2001. Since then, he has worked on several creative projects, including several small publications of his writing. Tim met Scott Beale in DC, while Scott was working on Millennial Manifesto, which he helped edit. In the future, Tim would like to serve society as a social scientist in the private sector, researching and providing objective analysis of government policy and will continue writing in order to provide a meaningful look at human nature and reality in general.



CristinaCristina Ramos
, Spanish Translation Coordinator & Colombian Outreach
Cristina holds a BA in Translation Studies from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and is currently studying Social Anthropology. She is very interested in international cooperation and has worked with recently settled immigrants in Madrid helping them with their Spanish and trying to make it easier for them to integrate in the country's culture. She currently lives with her boyfriend in Bogotá, where she works as an English teacher and a volunteer for different organizations. Cristina joined the Atlas Corps team in 2006 to help with the Colombia Program and has led the effort to translate the entire site into Spanish!
JanJan-Michael Sacharko, Development Manager
Jan-Michael Sacharko is a 2001 graduate of Georgetown University. He has worked at Mary House (a nonprofit in Washington, DC, that provides shelter, transitional housing, and support services to homeless immigrant and refugee families) for the last five-and-a-half years. As anyone who has worked at a small nonprofit has experienced, he has had to fill many roles at Mary house including maintenance man, house manager, case worker, fundraiser, and volunteer coordinator. He is also somewhat tall.





Rachel SadonRachel Sadon, College Outreach Coordinator & DC Intern

Rachel is currently a sophomore at Georgetown University and an intern with Atlas Corps in 2007. She is working on a degree in Culture and Politics in the Walsh School of Foreign Service. She is a member of Alpha Phi Omega, the national co-ed service fraternity, and edits for the undergraduate academic journal, Mentis Vita. Rachel was drawn to the innovation of Atlas Service Corps and is excited to help in the execution of its vision.





Sarah Sanders, Senior Program Advisor
Sarah Sanders graduated with honors from Georgetown University and holds a BS in International Political Economy. She currently works for the Illinois Math and Science Academy, a nonprofit institution whose mission is to help high school students become leaders in math, science, and technology. Sarah is thankful for the many opportunities she has had to travel, learn, and work abroad. Through these experiences, she recognized the vital need for an organization like Atlas Corps in today's global economy. Sarah joined the Atlas Corps team in June of 2006 to raise funds from foundations, corporations, and individuals to support the launch this innovative organization.
Vanessa White
Vanessa White, Development Volunteer.
Vanessa White graduated with honors from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in Health and Societies. She is currently working as a program assistant at Microfinance Opportunities, a microenterprise resource center that seeks to improve the poor’s access to financial services. Spurred by an interest in social entrepreneurship, she joined the Atlas Corps team in the summer of 2006 and now contributes to the organization’s fundraising and grant-writing efforts.

Clara Ministral, Spanish Translation Clara holds a BA in Translation and Interpreting from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and is currently doing an MA in Comparative Literature. She is very keen on translation, languages and cultural exchange and currently lives in London, UK. Her long-term goal is to become a literary translator, but she is also interested in other types of translation, which is why she is also working in other fields and volunteering for various charities and organizations. She joined the Atlas Corps team at the end of 2006 and is helping with the translation of the website and key documents into Spanish.

Atlas Corps would like to thank Kristina Hermanson, Sanjaya Mohattala, Rashmi Nigam, Gregory Samson, and Rajesh Sharma who have all put in a lot of time to improve Atlas Corps’ Business Plan. Here is an introduction to one of those team members:

Kristina Hermanson is a second year MBA student at UCLA Anderson focusing on General Management Studies. She holds a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Kristina has eight years experience in the energy industry in activities ranging from fundamental technology research and project management, to strategy management at ALSTOM (Switzerland) Ltd. At Anderson, Kristina serves as a Board member for Net Impact and Strategic Operations Management Association. Kristina was a Summer Consultant at The Boston Consulting Group in Zurich, Switzerland, and will return to Europe after completing her studies. She enjoys ballet, trout fishing, and traveling!



HeatherHeather Sullivan

Heather currently lives in New Delhi, India. She has lived in Africa, the Middle East and now Asia working within the governmental, NGO and private sectors. Heather served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Senegal, West Africa. After her time in West Africa Heather returned to the U.S. and worked briefly in the environmental abatement business before beginning a two and a half year stint with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). As a civil society specialist Heather was responsible for backstopping USAID’s Democracy and Governance programs in West Africa. She also oversaw the Democracy and Human Rights Fund – a small grants program supporting elections, voter education, journalism, and other democracy programs – in Sub-Saharan Africa. During her time with USAID, Heather spent extended time in Nigeria, Zimbabwe, as well as shorter periods in Senegal, Cameroon, Mali, Namibia, South Africa and Guinea. She also participated in evaluations of USAID programs focusing on cross-sectoral programming and their impacts.

Following her time with USAID and after completing an MPA in Urban and Environmental Policy, Heather was selected for the City of Washington, DC’s Capital City Fellows program and completed one and a half years of the program aimed at recruiting new professional into the nation’s capitol city government.  Heather then took a permanent position working as the transportation planner for Ward 2, the U.S. Capital’s federal hub and home to much of DC’s tourist sites. One of the projects she coordinated was the redesign and construction of Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House following the closure to vehicular traffic. 

In 2003, Heather shifted her focus again to international development and moved to the Middle East to begin work on an emergency assistance project which provides grants to Palestinian NGOs in the West Bank and Gaza. The project implemented by ARD, Inc. and funded by USAID, provides basic needs such as food, shelter and water and access to health care to vulnerable communities during the economic decline and conflict ridden years of the recent Intifada. Heather was responsible for ensuring compliance with USAID regulations throughout the project and the competitive and fair awarding of grants and contracts totaled at more than $9 million over two+ years.

Heather holds a B.A. in English Composition from DePauw University and a Masters in Public Administration from Indiana University’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs. Heather moved to India in July 2006. Heather lives with her husband, Peter Sullivan, who serves as the Regional Legal Advisor to USAID, and their two cats. Heather is an outstanding addition to the team and play a critical role in expanding and increasing the impact of our work in India and eventually around the world.


sanjayaSanjaya Mohottala, Business Plan Volunteer
Sanjaya Mohottala is a second-year MBA student at the UCLA Anderson School of Management, focusing on entrepreneurship and strategy. He holds a BSc in Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering from University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. He is a Chartered Management Accountant (ACMA- UK) and an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK. Prior to attending UCLA Anderson, he worked as a Brand Manager at Unilever Sri Lanka and as an Oracle Product Specialist at MillenniumIT. Sanjaya serves as a Board member of the Entrepreneur Association and Management Consulting Association. Sanjaya was a summer consultant at The Boston Consulting Group in Los Angeles. He enjoys flying, photography and traveling.


ChristianChristian Javier Ortiz Matallana, Bogotá Summer Intern
Christian Javier Ortiz Matallana is 21 years old. He is a Colombian American currently living in Palm Beach County in Florida. He is currently a junior attending Florida International University in Miami Florida, majoring in International Relations looking to minor in International Business. After he graduates, his goal is to earn a masters degree in International Studies at the Unviersidad de Chile, however he is also studying the possibility of attending Sciences Po in Paris.




IrwinIrwin Mendelssohn, Bogotá Summer Intern
Irwin is currently an MBA student at the Yale School of Management. Prior to business school, he worked at Northern Trust in Chicago where he led a variety of initiatives focused on applying technology to the reporting and analysis of financial information to help senior management with running the firm. Additionally, for over four years he managed the recruiting, training and ongoing participation of volunteers for a weekly mentoring program for at-risk youth supported by Northern Trust. He has a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Florida and an M.A. in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University. He was raised in South Florida.


maryMary Jo Kochendorfer,Bogotá Summer Intern
Mary Jo is from Minnesota and graduated with a B.S.B in International Business and Marketing from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota. Since her graduation she has worked with Deloitte Consulting and volunteered for multiple non-profit organizations. Her strong passion for giving people the opportunity to succeed through access to knowledge, capital, and opportunities has led her to this opportunity with Atlas Corps. She hopes to enhance her Spanish skills and assist Atlas Corps in anyway possible during her internship.




Lina OchoaLina Ochoa, Bogota Summer Intern
Lina has been engaged in several nonprofit initiatives in Colombia, working on issues such as assessment and advocacy of public policies, promotion of entrepreneurship in rural communities and assistance to internally displaced children. She was one of three finalists in the Hello Tomorrow Fund Contest of Avon Inc., which acknowledges projects committed to promote women empowerment. Lina Ochoa holds a B.A. in Economics and a Master in Economics from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, and hopefully she will start the program MSc in Development Management at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Her career interests are focused on private sector development, interaction between corporate sector and civil society sector, and international aid to development. Currently, Lina serves in Atlas Corps as volunteer in logistics and strategic planning.


StephanieStephanie Sparrell, Washington Summer Intern
Stephanie is a rising sophomore at Northwestern University. She is an International Studies and Political Science double major with a Global Health minor. She will be working with Atlas Corps this summer in DC from June to around September. She is looking forward to working with Atlas Corps this summer. She is interested in NGOs and looks forward to getting further involved in the non-profit arena after college. She'll be staying right outside the city with her parents this summer.




KartieKatie Ball, India Summer Intern
Katie is a junior at the College of William and Mary and is part of the Sharpe Community Scholars program on campus. She is an International Relations major and hopes to pursue a career in human rights, social justice, and development. In college, she has been working with the Virginia Department of Health on providing culturally and linguistically appropriate medical services for the Williamsburg Latino population, as well as with William and Mary's Student Organization for Medical Outreach and Sustainability (SOMOS). With SOMOS, she has had an amazing, inspiring time traveling twice to the Dominican Republic to run a medical clinic and do ethnographic research. In her home of Wilmington, Delaware, Katie worked with Youth Venture to form the ACT (Active and Compassionate Teens) Conference for Social Justice at the Tatnall School, which is how she came to know Scott. And now, she cannot wait to intern for Atlas Corps this July in India!
