The budget below is a very approximate outline of how Atlas Corps plans to expand the first three years. The secret to how the Atlas Corps becomes a sustainable program is that the exchange creates a real value to U.S. Citizen sector organizations. Atlas Corps leverages that value by charging a cost share to these U.S. CSOs that covers about 40% of the cost of the program.

At the same time, Atlas Corps attempts to fundraise more than is necessary to create an Atlas Corps Endowment. Over time, the cost share increases and the endowment grows to a point where the interest from the endowment meets the difference between the cost of the program and the cost-share paid for by the U.S. CSO. By the 10th year, Atlas Corps no longer needs to fundraise to meet the expenses of the program. Pretty cool, huh?
