Volunteers

Don't sit back wondering how you can make a difference. Lend a hand to this exciting, growing organization. Whether you have ten hours a week or ten hours a year, we could use your help, no matter where you are located. Here are some of our opportunities ...

In India:
We need help recruiting partners, funders, and Fellows. We need support developing our "India Program Board." Help us with our website, reaching out to media, connecting with schools, building a nominator network. We need pictures of volunteer leaders in India. We welcome feedback on the design and concept of the idea.

In Colombia:
We need a lot of help building the network, recruiting partners, Fellows and funders. We have a lot of experience in India, but less experience in Colombia. Help us know who key partners will be. Support us as we develop our "Colombia Program Board." If you speak Spanish, we need help with translators of documents and people to come to meetings with only Spanish speaking citizen sector leaders. If you are in Colombia, volunteer directly with the Founder in his office to develop the organization on multiple levels.

In Washington, DC:
We need help recruiting host nonprofit organizations, looking for office space (probably in another nonprofit), doing fundraising proposals, spreading awareness, etc. We need help from someone who is interested in developing the college network, or willing to do outreach to civic or religious organizations to become sponsors.

We are also looking to develop a "DC Friends of Atlas Corps" group that will serve as a welcoming committee for Fellows coming to Washington. This Friends of Atlas Corps group will do everything from help find two-month home stays for the Fellows, take them out to dinner in their first weeks in the U.S., organize social events, provide support, help find long-term housing, answer questions of Fellows before they arrive. We are seeking volunteers for this committee now and even looking for someone to chair this important initiative..

In Delaware:
We need help recruiting host nonprofit organizations, looking for office space (probably in another nonprofit organization), working with the University of Delaware to develop a training program, fundraising, foundation proposal, fundraising events, etc. We need help from someone who is interested in developing the college network, or willing to do outreach to civic or religious organizations to become sponsors. We need help planning a fundraiser in November.

We are also looking to develop a "Delaware Friends of Atlas Corps" group that will serve as a welcoming committee for Fellows coming to Delaware.

Virtually:
People anywhere in the world can help out with the Atlas Corps virtually if you'd like to help us develop our program. Ideally, we are looking for people willing to spend a few hours a month doing various tasks ranging from partner outreach, development, partner recruitment, marketing, etc.

Here are some specific volunteer positions with seek to fill:

Media Coordinator:
Atlas Corps plans a significant media outreach plan in the Fall and Winter and seeks a media coordinator who can organize outreach to the press to raise awareness about Atlas Corps.

U.S. Development Assistant:
Atlas Corps seeks a volunteer for 5-10 hours a week with flexible hours who is willing to go to the Foundation Center Library and research fundraising opportunities, write foundation proposals and work with the Founder to raise money for the organization.

College Network Coordinator:
Atlas Corps seeks a college student, probably in DC or Delaware, but could be anywhere in the U.S., to develop the "Global ACCION" (Atlas Corps College International Organization Network). The vision for this group would be to organization college students around the Atlas Corps mission of strengthening the global nonprofit sector. Activities would include organizing events on college campuses for Fellows and the Founder to come speak as well as awareness events around important global issues and events.

Spanish Language Document Translator:
We need a volunteer for 5-10 hours a week who can help translate documents and this web page from English to Spanish. This is an important position and hope to find someone with translating experience.

Faith-Based Organization Outreach Coordinator:
Atlas Corps seeks to partner with churches, synagogue, mosques, and all types of faith-based organizations to support Atlas Corps. Activities would include reaching out to these groups and asking them to sponsor a Fellow for $500. If they sponsor a Fellow, then the Fellow would come speak to their congregation and they could follow the Fellow's progress over the year.

Strategic Web Design Consultant:
This website is constantly being improved (and will be a lot better in October), but Atlas Corps seeks a volunteer for 2-5 hours a week who can provide strategic web design advice, and perhaps some web design support.

DC/DE Friends of Atlas Corps Chairs:
We are seeking an individual in DC and in DE to organize the "Friends of Atlas Corps" committees whose primary rolls will be to support and welcome the Fellows as they arrive in the United States. Fellows do not arrive until the summer of 2007, however, we need to start developing this committee, seeking out families to provide a two-month home stay to the fellows and to answer questions of Fellows before they arrive.

Indian-American Outreach Coordinator:
Atlas Corps seeks an Indian-American or Indian in the U.S. who can help coordinate outreach to Indian-American organizations in the U.S. Outreach will be to raise awareness, raise funds, seek feedback, develop allies and strengthen the Indian-side of the program. A Volunteer is needed for 2-5 hours a week, and hopefully someone who is willing to fill this roll for at least nine months.

Colombian-American Outreach Coordinator:
Atlas Corps seeks a Colombian-American or Colombian in the U.S. who can help coordinate outreach to Colombian-American organizations in the U.S. Outreach will be to raise awareness, raise funds, seek feedback, develop allies and strengthen the Colombian-side of the program.
